Thanksgiving Recipes for Your Dorm

If you’re not going home to see family this Thanksgiving break, don’t worry about it. You can just as easily celebrate friends-giving in the comfort of your dorm or apartment. The only question is…what on earth are you cooking?

Last Thanksgiving, we gave you traditional dorm room recipes for the holiday, but this year is a little different. Here are a few new and improved Thanksgiving dishes.

Spinach Dip-This recipe can be done in a matter of minutes and isn’t too heavy so that you have room for the rest of your meal. The best part? You only have to use one bowl!

Main Dish:

Turkey with gravy– So we know that nothing will live up to your mom or grandma’s homemade bird, but there are tons of recipes out there for microwaved turkey. Ask your family what spices they put on their turkey so you have a little taste of home. Maybe even get some gravy in a jar from the store for topping.

Side Dishes:

Cranberry Relish-If you’re sick of the same old cranberry sauce, try going out of your comfort zone this year. The recipe is dorm-friendly and adds a modern twist on an old favorite.

Sweet Potato– Instead of doing packaged mashed potatoes this year, experiment with a fresh one! Many sweet potato casseroles are made with marshmallows so try to mimic this idea by putting a few mini ones at the very last second to melt into the potato.

Quinoa Salad “stuffing”-This gluten free alternative will be lighter but still contain some of the flavors that remind you of thanksgiving. The addition of pomegranate seeds and mint will leave you refreshed and ready for dessert.

Pumpkin Pie in a Mug– Just because you’re cooking in a dorm doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get to eat pumpkin pie. This recipe is easy, tasty and you’ll want to make it all winter long.

Whether you’re in your dorm with friends or at home with family, try adding modern recipes in the mix this Thanksgiving. It’s never too late to create a new tradition! Who knows, maybe cranberry relish will make an appearance at every Thanksgiving after this one…
