Hard to believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away! For those of you staying on campus that have no idea what you’ll be doing (besides binge-watching shows on Netflix)- why not plan or go to a Friendsgiving? For the uninitiated, Friendsgiving is Thanksgiving, but with friends. So, what do you do if all your friends are away for Thanksgiving?
Well, you’ve got options! Although it’s certainly not guaranteed, there is always a possibility that the Resident Assistant who volunteered to stay on campus could possibly host one. Or, you could always speak to them about planning one yourself. You won’t be the only person in your dorm room during Thanksgiving weekend, so planning a Friendsgiving for the dorm room could be a truly wonderful experience for everyone.
Right about now, you may be wondering why anyone would plan to host a Friendsgiving for random strangers and quasi-acquaintances? Maybe you’re thinking Friendsgiving is supposed to just be for friends. Don’t be silly! Try being inclusive! You can certainly form new friendships and strengthen bonds during this event. After all, you’ll already have one thing in common – you’re all stuck on campus for the holiday. I know that might sound a bit harsh, but the simple truth is that you’ll be making the best out of a less than ideal situation. This will allow you the chance to find humility and break bread with people you may or may not know, and something special may be forged during that evening of dining.
However, you choose to celebrate your Thanksgiving this year, we hope you have a memorable and enjoyable holiday. Stay safe and happy Thanksgiving to all!
