Summer quarantine thoughts

Ah, Summertime – the maker of our traveling dreams. This summer challenges that idea with the ongoing pandemic, cripping the traveling industry and therefore, our collective wanderlust. Flights and plans were cancelled and airlines were forced to either credit accounts or offer a refund. So, you ask yourself – what now? Great question. We actually don’t know the answer.

While I’ve been in isolation for 4 months and keeping busy with work, my travel plans for the summer were cancelled (or I cancelled them) because most of the venues I wanted to visit were shut down due to the pandemic. I was offered credit for my flights and have 30 days to reschedule. Talk about an epic Catch-22. If I don’t reschedule, I lose my credit. If I do reschedule, where would I go and why with the pandemic happening?

As far as keeping entertained, I’ve seen pretty much every show on Hulu and Netflix. There are only so many hours that I can put into watching television, and frankly, I’m at a loss when it comes to entertainment. There’s YouTube, but I’ve become so numb to it that it just sits as background noise.

I’ve been on more FaceTime calls than my battery could handle, tried new recipes, and even dabbled in video games! Just know that if you feel like your cabin fever is starting to reach new heights, you’re not alone! Despite the heavy boredom, keeping safe (yourself and others) is what matters most at the end of the day. There’s a virus out there that leaves nothing in its wake. Stay indoors and do your absolute best to keep your mind going. Remember that your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and this is truer now than ever before.
