Surviving Summer School

There are two reasons why people take summer classes. one reason is to get ahead, and the other is to make up classes. Here are some survival tips to help get you through summer school.

  1. Commit – Your friends will be traveling and posting their summer adventures online, but try not to focus on it.  Do whatever it takes to remove those distractions, like muting your friends or deactivating your social media. Commit to your studies now, so you can look to reward yourself towards the end. Future you will thank you for it!
  2. Sleep – This seems pretty straightforward, but you’d be surprised by how many people still don’t get enough sleep.  To add insult to injury, because it’s summer, the incentive to stay up a little later with friends or binge-watch the latest show on Netflix is higher. We know how tempting these indulgences may be, but try to limit this type of behavior. Get plenty of rest so that you’re functioning at peak performance.
  3. Create a schedule – Summer school courses run at an accelerated pace, so the amount of material you’re going to cover  goes by extremely fast. You’re going to have to pivot to this type of learning and adapt just as quickly as the material gets released.
  4. Don’t miss any classes – Seems like a no-brainer, but missing a class is like missing half a semester’s worth of material. In addition, some schools have a policy that if you miss a certain number of days, the course won’t count. Make sure that you go to your classes so that you’re not wasting both your time and money.

Summer school may sound  like it will drag on, but we promise it will go by super quick. Good luck!
