4 Tips to Avoid the Flu

It’s officially November which means the weather is getting colder, the holidays are approaching and unfortunately, flu season is here. Although laying in bed and  watching a Netflix marathon while eating chicken noodle soup does sound tempting,  there’s just too much to do.  Between school work, social obligations and outside curricular activities, who has time to get sick these days? Here are a few tips to stay healthy during the beginning of flu season!

1. The Flu Shot

There are two ends of the spectrum- one group of people who believe in getting the flu shot and one group who is against it completely.  If you are a flu shot believer, get that shot ASAP so you’re out frolicking in the leaves instead of being sick in bed.

2. Wash your hands

Washing your hands is probably the oldest tip in the book. If you’re in classes all day and sitting in desks that other people have sat in, it is safe to say that there’s a possibility that someone who sat in that desk before you either has the flu or is a carrier. If you don’t have access to a bathroom all day, t’s best to also keep a hand sanitizer in your bag for a quick fix.

3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose & mouth

Generally germs are spread when you touch a part of your body and then touch something else that others will come in contact with. If you try to avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, you may stop spreading germs to others.

4. Healthy Habits

There are a few lifestyle choices you can make in order to keep the flu away from you. These include getting a good amount of sleep, eating healthy, staying hydrated and keeping your stress to a minimum. If you have a huge test next week, make sure you aren’t pulling all nighters and eating out of the vending machine for dinner.
