Halloween – college party safety rules

It’s almost Halloween! Which means…it’s almost time for Halloween Parties! In the spirit of the spooky season, we’ve put together some tried and true rules to help keep you safe at a Halloween college party.

Watch your drink!

This bit of advice is so important that we had to mention it. Watch your drinks, people! Unfortunately, this rule of thumb is incredibly crucial for females. With that being said, knowledge is power, ladies. So, when you’re at that halloween party (or any party really), avoid accepting drinks that have been pre-poured by someone else on your behalf. Instead, opt to make and pour your own drinks so that you know exactly what you are imbibing. Also, don’t leave your drink unattended. If you need to use the bathroom or step away for some fresh air, ask a trusted friend to hold your drink for you. Or, simply discard your drink and get yourself a brand new one. Trust us when we say that it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Use the Buddy System:

The buddy system is a great way to keep you safe. It’s particularly important if you plan to attend an off-campus party that requires you to travel via car. If that’s the case and you wish to drink at the party, make sure you have a friend with you who has agreed in advance to be a designated driver. We cannot stress the importance of this enough – a sober driver is a literal life saver.

Even if you’re attending an on campus party where transportation is not a factor, it’s still a good idea to have one friend with you who is not going to be drinking so that they may keep a watchful eye on you. If you are someone who does not drink, you might make a great buddy this Halloween!

Eat Food and Drink Water:

This may seem obvious, but we are still going to mention it. Make sure that you eat something and drink plenty of water BEFORE going to the party. Having food in your stomach will help to slow down the absorption of the alcohol that you drink.

Drink plenty of water. If you are able to, we recommend that for each alcoholic drink you have, you also drink one glass of water. This will not only help you while you are drinking, but it will also help you once the drinking is over. By staying properly hydrated, you are more equipped to avoid a nasty hangover the next day. Another bonus here is that by drinking water in between drinking alcohol, you will be more likely to pace yourself properly.

We hope these party safety rules come in handy this Halloween. Remember to stay aware of your surroundings so that you can stay safe – but also remember to have fun!
