The one thing I find most difficult in college is staying organized. Between classes, extra curricular activities and socializing with friends – it’s easy to get caught up in the hype of college and lose track of time and your things. Disorganization can not only limit the amount of space you have in your room, but it can also cause you to feel stressed, making your overall college experience less enjoyable. So, here are some tips to keep that desk area and closet in check, giving you the best chances for success.
Tips To Get Organized…

The most common place you will find a pile of nonsense would have to be your desk area.
I can bet 90% of you have a ridiculously high pile of papers varying from junk mail to the essay due in an hour. If you find yourself looking at a similar image, the first step is to clean and get rid of the papers you don’t need. It’s springtime, so here is a perfect excuse to break out the spring-cleaning playlist and a recycling bin.
#1: Go through all the loose papers you have and get rid of what you don’t need anymore.
#2: From there, head to Target or Wal-Mart and pick up some magazine holders. These are great for holding notebooks and binders when you don’t need them for class. Not only do they stand up by themselves, but you can lay them horizontally or vertically as well (depending on the amount of space you have or your style). They also come in lots of different colors and patterns to fit your dorm room theme.
#3: For those pens and pencils that keep rolling away, grab a mug or mason jar at your local craft store to keep those writing utensils in check. You can even decorate it! It’s a great way to personalize and find your inner craftiness.

The next place you’ll find chaos is probably your closet or chest of drawers.
#4: A great way to keep all those shoes and accessories organized is through hanging organizers. You can buy an organizer at most retail stores, but if you’re low on cash, get a cork board and larger push pins to hang your necklaces and bracelets from when they’re not adorning your body.
#5: In your closet, try and keep things hung on hangers and orderly.
#6: If you have a lot of drawers but don’t have much hanging space, try rolling your clothes instead of folding them. This style of folding is more efficient and will give you more space.
#7: For girls, are you like me and have a plethora of tote bags you just don’t know where to store? One place good place could be your bedposts. Hanging them off the side keeps them out of way but they still remain easy to access.
College can be a crazy time, but if you have a place for everything and if everything’s in its place, then I guarantee you’re in for the time of your life. As a Dorm Room Movers author, feel free to leave any additional suggestions and/or tips for organizing your dorm space.
Good Luck,
