Having trouble studying for Midterms? Check out these 5 ways to motivated during this stressful time!!

1.  Choose a quiet spot away from your friends.

When I am studying, I am always getting distracted when I try and study next to my friends at the library.  I know to always find my quiet spot, where I won’t get distracted and where I can put in my headphones and listen to calming music to get me in the study mode.  Choose a small café near campus, where you can not only focus better, but also enjoy a nice cappuccino or latte to keep you more awake and alert.

1.   Take study breaks.

3.  Eat at least three meals a day.

Not being able to focus has something to do with how much you have been eating.  I know that if I don’t eat every couple of hours, I am not as motivated to doing work and being proactive.  Make sure you eat a big breakfast and snack on something light and healthy while you’re studying.  Don’t drink cup after cup of coffee or else you will be too hyper and shaky–stick to caffeinated tea or maybe one cup of coffee to wake yourself up in the morning.

4.  Plan ahead.

Crash studying, or studying the entire day/night before a huge test is not the way to go about preparing for midterms.  Make sure you leave yourself at least a week to start making study guides and creating note cards that you can just flip through and go over one more time the day before your test.  Another way to plan ahead is first starting on one topic or chapter at a time and making sure you can explain the information to another person—master the topic before moving on to the next one.

5.  Get a good night sleep.

I know you want to be staying up late every night and waking up early until you retain all of the information, but by not getting that extra couple hours of sleep, your REM cycle, or sleep cycle, is affected and you won’t be able to focus as much when you’re studying.  Learn to not cram the night before in order for your brain and body to function and retain information better.

Good luck,
Cassandra
