The word and title ‘freshman’ alone is intimidating…
It’s a certified way to get the hairs on the back of your neck stand up as well as bring all of your insecurities brought to the forefront of your day-to-day thoughts. Mix that with a dose of anticipation for the road ahead and you’ve got yourself a case of anxiety at it’s finest.
Which is probably not a great way to start off your freshman year, right?
No sweat, we’ve got you covered…
With all of the ‘what if’s’ floating around in your head at the moment, the best possible thing to do is focus on the positives. Right now, you may be wondering how this is even possible; especially when you factor in adjusting to a new environment with your move to college.
It’s simple…
Although you’ve got nine months ahead of you, these months will bring numerous changes and possibilities, and those changes and possibilities are yours and yours alone to make. YOU get to decide what YOU want to do, how YOU want to develop YOUR skills, and above all how to spend YOUR time.
The question is how are YOU going to get there?
Think about all the possibilities…
No more classifications or generalizations to be subjected to. No more of the 7:30-4:30 class restrictions. No more social group constrictions. No more tardy slips or after school detentions. No more “be home by 11:00 pm” curfews.
As Confucius once stated, “Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but rising every time we fall.”
Plain and simple – new school, new friends and new rules…
However, if you’re still apprehensive about the whole sitch – there are a few ways to keep yourself afloat, such as:
- Assimilate with your classmates (interact with others)
- Participate in campus activities (sports are a great way to do that)
- Join social clubs or organizations (what are your hobbies?)
- Coexist with your roommate(s)
- Manage your time (daily commitments, study time & social activities)
- Manage your money (budget fixed expenses vs. variable expenses)
With all of these new possibilities you can clear out your cob webbed thoughts and move on. Sure, there are all sorts of obstacles headed your way – but you’re going to get through them, one step at a time. Only you can determine your path to success and happiness.
